Welcoming Women to Golf
We take great pride in welcoming women to golf in West Dorset!
Historically there has been a decline in women playing golf, with the common misconception that it is a sport for men. Over the past few years we’ve been working to reverse this trend alongside the likes of England Golf and campaigns such as Women & Girls in Golf Week and the Slingsby Golf Academy.
There are endless reasons why golf is a fantastic game for women. Here are just a few ways women can benefit from playing:
Relaxed way to socialise and network with new people of all ages, abilities and occupations.
Great exercise: did you know that on average, playing an 18-hole round while carrying your bag burns approximately 1,300 calories? It’s less of a chore if you’re exercising whilst socialising! Playing golf regularly also reduces the risk of developing conditions such as heart disease or dementia.
Escapism! Golf provides a way to escape from everyday work and life stresses, whilst being surrounded with wide green spaces and calming nature. At Came Down, you can take in panoramic views of Dorset’s beautiful countryside and an array of wildlife including our Sika Deer.
Reduces stress & anxiety: like all exercise, playing golf releases endorphins which are powerful and natural mood-enhancing boosts for the brain.
Flexible: Can be enjoyed in ‘bite-sized’ chunks to fit around work and family life with 9 holes available for those looking for less time on the course.
For those who are looking to learn to play golf, our Academy is a great stepping-stone, allowing our Academy members to get to know one another whilst becoming familiar with the game and our course.
At Came Down we have a dedicated Ladies’ Section with regular social events and competitions. With around 50 members, some of which have been at the club for over 30 years, the group pride themselves on being very supportive, welcoming and inclusive.
Competitions are played weekly on a Tuesday as the main Ladies’ Day and there are also reserved tee times on a Friday for a ladies roll up. There’s also an opportunity to play friendly matches with other golf clubs in the local area, and the section organise three Open Days throughout the year, including one mixed with male members and friends.
The Ladies’ Section host a variety of social and fundraising events throughout the year, including a Christmas Lunch and Bridge Evening; the latter raises funds for the Ladies Captains Charity and to help with the running costs of the Ladies’ Section.
Don’t worry if you’ve never picked up a golf club; we offer 1-1 and group lessons with our PGA professionals, enabling you to learn at your own pace.
We offer practice facilities, buggy and cart hire and our Pro Shop is filled with a comprehensive range of golf clothing, equipment and accessories. All you need for lessons is comfortable clothing and trainers- all equipment is provided.
Visitors are very welcome seven days a week, all year round, and we have society packages available for groups of 12 or more, which we can customise to suit your exact requirements.
Why not spend the day with a group of friends, keeping fit, having fun and finishing off with lunch on the terrace of our newly renovated clubhouse, admiring the spectacular views?
