The Came Down Ladies Section

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Came Down Golf Club’s Ladies’ Section. We are a highly active group with around 50 members. Some of our members have been at the club for over 30 years, whereas many ladies have joined in recent years.

We have a reputation for a lovely downland course with fine views of Dorchester, Weymouth, Portland, and the surrounding countryside.

The ladies’ weekly competitions are played on two days. Tuesday is the main Ladies’ Day, but we also have reserved tee times on a Saturday or Sunday to accommodate lady members who work or are in education. Any lady can play on either or both days, but the first card will count for the Competition and both cards will count for handicap purposes.

The Ladies’ Committee organises the golf season competition schedule. A mix of competition and fun golf is planned. There are both handicap qualifying competitions, mostly medal and stableford competitions, and non-qualifying competitions.

The Ladies Section provides an opportunity to play other clubs and is proactive in organising interclub Friendly matches with other golf clubs in the local area. For lower handicap players, we have teams in the Interclub Cup (silver players) and Woods Trophy (21+), and we also enter teams in the Humphreys Bowl, Parkin Cup, Daily Mail Foursomes, Coronation Foursomes and Legg Bowl. In addition, we organise three Open Days, two for Ladies which includes one on a weekend and a Mixed where we can play with our male members and invite friends: plus, the Lady Captain’s Away Day during Course Maintenance week.

Our ladies’ section is a very friendly and supportive group and is extremely keen to welcome new members and visitors. We aim to be inclusive and encouraging as we understand how daunting it can be for new members to join a club, especially if new to the game. We therefore run regular fun mornings with the ladies learning to play golf in our Academy run by our professionals. These help us to get to know each other, for the new ladies to get to know the course and for us all to enjoy some friendly golf together. Our new members liaison officer will help all new ladies integrate into the club and all members of the Ladies’ Committee like to play regularly with new members to welcome them into the section.

There are many social events taking place throughout the year, including the four key events, a Coffee Morning and a Bridge Evening in March/April, the Ladies Masters and Dinner in October and the Christmas Lunch in December.  The Coffee Morning and Bridge Evening raise funds for the Ladies Captains Charity and to help with the running costs of the Ladies’ Section.
