The Joys of Spring Golf at Came Down Golf Club

The Joys of Spring Golf at Came Down Golf Club

Surrounded by breathtaking rural landscapes, our 18-hole downland course looks beautiful at this time of year, with an array of colourful flowers bursting into life around the greens. What better way to welcome in a new season and say goodbye to the chilly winter than by playing a few rounds at Came Down!

Read on to discover more about the delights of springtime golf, from lush fairways to encounters with local wildlife.

Mild Weather and Longer Days

After the colder months of winter, spring brings milder temperatures that make spending extended periods of time outdoors much more enjoyable. Longer, brighter days mean more time to fit in a round of golf after work or on weekends, allowing players to make the most of their time on the course. The extra daylight also provides opportunities for leisurely twilight rounds, with the setting sun casting a golden glow over the fairways.

Course Conditions

Spring brings with it a renewal of nature and golf courses are no exception. The grass begins to green up and fairways and greens recover from the dormancy of winter, resulting in lush, verdant playing surfaces. Our fantastic greenkeepers maintain the course to a very high standard and with our excellent drainage system, we stay open all year round. Additionally, springtime often sees fewer golfers on the course compared to peak summer months, allowing for a more leisurely pace of play.

Wonderful Wildlife and Spring Scenery

One of the greatest joys of spring golf at Came Down is the opportunity to reconnect with nature. Surrounded by rolling hills and ancient woodlands, our course provides a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Here, amidst the serenity of the countryside, players can unwind and find solace in the simple pleasures of the game.

Another bonus of visiting us in spring, is sharing the course with diverse wildlife. As you make your way around the holes, you may catch a glimpse of hares darting across the greens, sika deer among the trees and butterflies flitting among bluebells, daffodils, primroses and cowslips. If you enjoy playing evening rounds, you could see a fox or two as the sun begins to set.

With blue skies, lush greens and birds tweeting, playing golf at Came Down offers an ideal opportunity to escape screens, improve mental health and reduce stress. As well as getting a few steps in of course!

Inviting Clubhouse

After your round, relax with a drink on our clubhouse terrace and gaze at the sun setting below the hills – it really is a sight to behold. As well as a fully licensed bar, our menu features a range of spring specials, made using local seasonal produce. Our clubhouse lounge is light and airy, with plenty of space for larger groups.

Learn a New Sport

For many golfers, the arrival of spring signals a fresh start and an opportunity to improve their game. With the longer days and milder weather, players have more time and energy to dedicate to practise and play. Additionally, the softer ground and receptive greens of spring can lead to longer drives and more forgiving approaches, boosting confidence and performance on the course.

Whether you're new to the sport, seeking to refine your skills or returning to the game after a break, our PGA professionals are here to guide you every step of the way. Nick and Sean make learning to play fun and allow people to develop at their own speeds. Beginners can start with an induction to learn a few basics before deciding to join our Academy.

Academy membership includes 10 golf lessons per year with a PGA pro, use of our practice facilities and 25% discount on your first year’s subscription when transferring to full club membership.
