7 Goals to Improve Your Golf Game
Whilst it’s important to have fun when playing golf, setting specific goals will give you focus and help you to improve faster.
Have a think about which parts of the game you want to work on and set both long and short term goals. Make sure that they are specific, realistic and measurable and decide when you want to achieve them by. From swing style to scoring birdies, there’s always room for improvement.
If you can’t pinpoint what you need to improve, make a record of your games to reflect on what you did well and identify your weaknesses. You can then make a more strategic plan of action. Don’t try and fix everything at once, pick one or two key areas and give yourself time to work on them.
Here are a few goals you could aim for to get you well on your way to becoming a pro.
Practice more regularly
Practice makes perfect as they say! Muscle memory, and therefore repetition, is critical to achieving a quality golf swing.

Perfect your swing
If your swing is off, even by a fraction, it can have a significant impact on your game. Make you are comfortable by making adjustments to your grip. Does it feel natural? Align your hips, feet and shoulders with your target. Don’t be afraid to try a new technique – a change in how you bring your club back can improve distance and accuracy considerably.

Lower your score/handicap
Aim for a score anywhere between 70-100 but make sure it is a realistic target for you. A smaller goal may be three strokes lower than your personal best. The best way to shave strokes off your score is to work on putting.
Aim for birdies or even a hole-in-one
Shooting below par or a hole-in-one is a golfers dream and perhaps something to be worked towards over time. You could start by aiming for birdies on lower par holes and progress from there.
Don’t forget to work on your mindset as well as your physical abilities. Many sports players practice visualisation, whereby you picture yourself making shots. Imagine the ball’s path and watch it roll into the hole, then try it for yourself. Take your time and don’t rush your shots.
Maintain clubs and equipment
Regrip your clubs regularly and repair or replace them if needed.
Getting fitted with the appropriate equipment that compliments your style and technique can enhance your swing and improve your game. Having the correct golf balls is important too – if you keep losing them, why not give yellow ones a go?

Keep fit off the course
Although golf isn’t a high intensity sport, you can certainly walk far! Off the course we recommend working on your strength, particularly your core, and stretching regularly to improve flexibility.
By building strength, you can add power to your drive, improve accuracy and increase stamina.
Play in an open competition
Competitions are a fun way to challenge yourself and test your skills against other players of a similar ability. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet new people who you could play against in future.
We host a variety of open competitions throughout the year, including a Mixed Open, Mens Open and events for Ladies and Seniors.
Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and always have fun!
