£2,500 Raised During Captain’s Weekend and Raj Aid 2023
Our Captain’s Weekend and Raj Aid musical extravaganza were an absolute triumph for the Club and the Charity, Steps Club for Young People.
£2,500 was raised by Raj Aid alone, combined with Captain's Day this takes our total for the year to £5,500!
Raj Aid on Friday evening exceeded our wildest expectations. Thank you to everyone who joined us as we enjoyed an evening of live music and entertainment from the world's first golf club supergroup!
Came Down was rocking to the tunes from our very own Supergroup, every member of the group a superstar - Alec Armitage, Mike Ashley, David Constant, Mike Denham, Sharon Gibson ( and her band 'The Ferrals'), David Lee, Brian Hansford and George Stevenson.
The music was outstanding, and the food went down very well. It was an absolute pleasure to see so many members, partners, and friends enjoying themselves in such a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with postcard views. We filled the dance floor all night long and the weather was kind to us.
Regrettably, the weather wasn't so kind on the Saturday, and we called off the Mixed Event - the right call as it proved. Hope we can reschedule the event later in the year.
The Sunday 4-man event started nice and early with the first group teeing off at 0700hrs in overcast and breezy conditions, but the event ended in sunshine! The BBQ was a roaring success with excellent burgers, and hot dogs with a choice of beers provided. Congratulations to the winning team with an exceptional score of 105 points: Paul Gay, Keith Fisher, Paul Merrit and Terry Old.

In Aid of STEPS Club for Young People
STEPS provides a range of activities, opportunities, projects, awards and support for young people aged 13-19, many of whom are disadvantaged, excluded or vulnerable. They currently run four evenings a week plus a Saturday Gateway Club for young people with learning disabilities.
STEPS work is educational, developmental and preventative. Whilst much of their work is delivered in groups, they undertake a significant amount of one-to-one work supporting young people with a wide range of issues and problems. These include education, training and employment, relationships, bullying, bereavement, drug and alcohol use, crime and anti-social behaviour, self-harm and suicidal ideation, abuse, sexual health and mental health.
At STEPS, young people have fun and gain confidence, self-esteem and a wide range of social and employable skills. They have a varied and active programme and encourage young people to make positive and healthy choices. They also enable young people to achieve and gain skills and qualifications and over the years this has included the ASDAN Youth Achievement Awards, Sports AQA’s, the Arts Award and Dorset Award.
